Design Plaza

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

Location: Dongdaemun History & Culture Park in Jung-gu, Seoul

The DDP, designed by architect Zaha Hadid, is built with flowing curves and dynamic underpasses to symbolize the ever-changing dynamics of the city around it. It's hard to say where the building starts or ends; at times the shaping reminded me of an Autodesk Alias 3D model. Inside are housed an Art Hall, Design Museum, and a Design Lab. On the left side of this image you can see the LED-backlit door number which is integrated into the perforated metal pattern that is used throughout the exterior of the building. Several pianos can be found at different locations around the building for anyone to play, as pictured here. The buildings around the DDP also display intriguing patterns and textures to visualize the action and liveliness of the city.
