Meal 1: Fried potatoes and peas
Spices: Dill, chili powder, red pepper flakes
I didn't realize that my spicing ritual could've ended yesterday so I made one more meal with three spices. I absolutely love dill with potatoes, so I cut back on the other spices that didn't really fit in and put in the most dill. Unfortunately I could hardly taste the dill even though it was evenly covering my food. In the past I have always chopped up live sprigs of dill which apparently have a much stronger flavor.
Summary: Overall I enjoyed this exercise even though it was restricting at times. It made me create flavor combinations with new spices which I would've never tried otherwise. I am still tempted to look up recipes of spices which definitely taste good together instead of going off smell alone. I learned that my spice rack is really unorganized and I honestly don't know how much spice to put on any quantity of food. I also confirmed that the right combination of spices can cut the need to put salt in my food.
Vision: I kept my eyes closed for 10 minutes during/after dinner today. I kept conversation with my boyfriend and when I opened my eyes he was sitting a lot further away than where I had imagined him. I asked him very obvious questions about what he was eating and doing but tried to guess off of sound. Partway through I got self conscious about if I had splattered some food but I couldn't check. I got up to throw away some garbage and felt my way around the counter. I nearly knocked over a water bottle but asked my boyfriend for confirmation on where I was and threw the trash away successfully. I relied on my sense of orientation in the room mostly, as well as touch in my hands, and the location of the sound coming from the living room. I felt pretty dumb feeling my way around just to throw something away. Partway through my boyfriend gasped at a picture and I was bummed that I couldn't see it while he was talking about it. At one point while I was thinking hard about trying to remember something that he was talking about, my eyes flew open not because there was anything to see but because I remembered the subject.
